Post Conference Workshop On Ethical Issues In The Practice Of Psychology

May 30, 2017
Workshop (half day 2PM to 6PM)
Ethical Issues in the Practice of Psychology:
Presenter:      Sunil Kumar, Ph.D.

Ethical issues are all around us as we practice psychology.  Until recently, the APA Code of Ethics did not seem to apply very well to many psychology professionals; it appeared to be “for clinicians only.”  However, the Ethics Code has evolved over time to address the issues that confront practicing psychologists. This introductory workshop will address (a) current developments in the APA Ethics Code and how the Code applies to Indian psychology professionals, (b) ethics enforcement mechanisms, (c) aspirational versus enforceable standards, and (d) the broader context in which these principles and standards operate.  Interactive cases will be used throughout to illustrate the above concepts.  This workshop is intended for practitioners who are relatively new to the field or who need a refresher on ethics in practice of psychology including teaching and research.  Instructors of ethics-related courses are also encouraged to attend.

This workshop is designed to help participants:
• Describe the current developments in the APA Code
• Apply the Code to Indian psychology adopted by NAOP and other regulatory bodies
• Identify and use the appropriate enforcement mechanisms
• Explain the context for developing and changing ethical principles and standards
• Apply ethics knowledge to representative case material
